Social Bookmarking

Social bookmarking is a method for Internet users to store, organize, search and manage bookmarks of web pages on the Internet with the help of metadata, typically in the form of tags or keywords.

It is basically an advanced, online version of the “favorites” or bookmarks you have on your personal computer.

If you find a site you like on your home computer and bookmark it, you will also be able to find it on your computer at work or even when you travel by simply logging into your bookmarking account.

As you bookmark website pages you use tags or keywords to organize them in your online account so you can find them easily when you need them.  It also makes it easy for you to share what you like online.

For example:

  1. You like to garden and have prize winning tomatoes.
  2. You post a link to the site that helped you find the right fertilizer as well as ones to other gardening sites you like or have learned from.
  3. Others searching for help with their fertilizer will find your bookmark and can check out the other sites you like.
  4. You can also do a search on others with that same interest and look through their favorite online sites and articles.

The other major bonus to these bookmarking sites is that they are considered “authority sites” by the search engines like Google.  When you have a link to them from your video, Nerve Center post or article, Google looks at that link and thinks that your video, post or article must be interesting or important and will place it higher in it’s listings.  The more bookmarks the better!

Some people feel that bookmarking is “black hat” and don’t agree with our methods.  That is fine.  You can still get some link love by sharing your sites yourself but if you want to take your bookmarking to the next level… keep reading!

Hint: Another way to get your site bookmarked by others is to use the Unified Tribe.  This group of like minded people help each other by bookmarking and sharing other people’s content.  It is a very fast, inexpensive and cool way of getting your content to go viral for you on autopilot!

There are a couple methods for using social bookmarking.  You can use an automated tool that will cost you money up front but will save you tons of time later or you can use free tools available online.
